Saint Jean Pied de Port

A short drive from Salies de Béarn and the start of the Camino de Santiago

SAINT JEAN PIED DE PORT – less than an hour away from Salies de Béarn and a charming medieval town famous for being the start of the French Pyrénées stage of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which runs from Saint Jean Pied de Port on the French side of the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles on the Spanish side and then another 780km on to Santiago de Compostela.

Quieter during the winter months, it is standing room only during the walking season, but Saint Jean Pied de Port is always a wonderful place to meander around the ancient cobbled streets watching all the modern day pilgrims make their preparations for the walk ahead. There are also many relaxed dining options year round.
